ERNEST LENARD WHITLEDGE 1923 - 2008 It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Ernest Lenard Whitledge. Ernie passed away at home on Thursday, September 11, 2008. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 52 years, Kathryn Whitledge (Wrye); daughters, Joan (David Dunderdale), Laurie; grand-children, Rob Brown (Laressa Russell), Katie Helgason, Devin and Tyler Rey; sister Norma Steitzer and his nieces and nephews. Ernie's life was full of adventure as he wore many different hats during his 84 years. When he was a young man he enjoyed going out to his Gramma and Grampa's farm in Sanford to give a hand during the summers. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and served until 1946 as an L.A.C. He had a passion for driving stock cars, but that all ended when he met Kathryn. He was working at Inman Motors at the time and Kathryn came in to buy a car. He was smitten right away. They were married in October 1955. They enjoyed a very good life together. Ernie worked various jobs from being a travelling salesman, property management for Baxter's, and selling aluminum siding for Sheriden's. Ernie enjoyed curling for many years with The Pembina Curling Club. Another one of Ernie's passions was playing the accordian. He enjoyed being able to play for anyone and everyone. He played up until the last day. In his later years, Ernie became known as the neighbourhood handyman. If you needed something built, he would build it. He enjoyed doing things for others and helping beautify the neighbourhood. He was always available to help out no matter what and he always had a story or two to tell and boy could he tell a story. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Celebration of Ernie's Life will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ernie's memory to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 9Z9 or The Heart and Stroke Foundation, #200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6.
