BERTHA DEREWIANKO (nee BARON) 1926 - 2008 Peacefully on Friday, September 12, 2008 at Concordia Hospital, Bertha Derewianko passed away at the age of 81 years. She will be sadly missed by daughter Lynn-Joy (Ken) Batenchuk and granddaughter, Maryet (fiancé Sean); son, Michael (Michelle) of Grand Prairie, AB and grandchildren, Christopher of Beijing, China and Natalie of Grand Prairie, AB. Also, she will be missed by dogs Licorice, Cinnamon and Baba's favourite Sweetie. In 2005, after 54 years, Bertha's dear husband Mike predeceased her whom she missed every day. She was also predeceased by her parents, Sophie (1951) and Stephen (1967); sister, Mary (1973); brothers, Joe (1993), Mike (1977) and brother-in-law Sam Choptiany (1991). Bertha was born Bronia Baron on December 4, 1926. She was proud of the fact that she managed to live her whole life in the house she was born in. She was a hairdresser, but gave it up to be a stay home mother. Bertha enjoyed being involved with people. She was a life member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church and also a member of the Ladies League. A big part of her life was being a member of Empress and Patricia Chapters, Order of the Eastern Star for 52 years. Bertha also enjoyed travelling everywhere, especially in the motor home. She really enjoyed company and her door was always open and she loved to have people over and entertain them. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 19 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. with a Basilian Father officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Orval Voakes, Baldur Johnson, Art Buckley, Herb Solmundson, Ray Batenchuk and Bill Batenchuk. The family would like to thank Dr. S. Nelka for his continued interest, Dr. S. Husarewycz for his care and the staff of 3West at Concordia Hospital. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
