NORMA SOBKOWICZ (nee SMITH) It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Norma Dorothy Sobkowicz announce the sudden but peaceful passing of their loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister on Monday, September 15, 2008 at the age of 69 years. Remaining to cherish her loving memory are husband of 47 years, Michael Sobkowicz; children, Grant, Sherry (Scott) Farr, and Charlene; grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan, Kristen and Kaelyn Farr; brothers, Lloyd, Ronald (Marlene) and Larry (Pam); sister-in-law Anne Sobkowicz; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Colin and Doris Smith, and in-laws Martin and Lena Sobkowicz. Norma was born in St. Boniface on October 12, 1938, grew up in the west end and lived her entire life in Winnipeg. In 1963, Norma, Mike and her parents purchased Toniata Lodge at Falcon Lake. Although it was a lot of hard work, there were many memorable evenings spent around the big table playing cards and being entertained by her father playing the fiddle and her mother chording on the piano. Norma started working at an early age. She was employed by several places, the last being Princess Auto where she retired in May 2004. Mom always looked forward to her Friday evenings at Club Regent with Sherry and trips to Seven Clans Casino. She also enjoyed travelling to various cat shows throughout Canada and the US with Charlene. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, whom she saw every day. She took great interest in everything they did and all their accomplishments. They will deeply miss their Nanny whom they loved very much. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Concordia Hospital, and the ICU at the Grace Hospital for their great care of Norma. Thanks also to Chaplain Roy Dueck for his prayers and words of comfort. If desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice. Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. with viewing one half hour prior at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with reception to follow. We will always miss you Mom and you will be in our hearts forever. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
