DONALD EDWARD KEATS Peacefully on September 15, 2008 Don passed away at the age of 74. Don is survived by his wife Shirley and his three sons Douglas (Sheri) Saskatoon, Kenneth (Laurie) Winnipeg, Bruce (Daryl) Singapore; grandchildren, Tina, Jeffery, Courtney, and Kurt; sisters, Vivian (Elmer) Bassett, Florence (Tom) Hardy and many nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents Archibald and Myrtle, brothers Gordon and Vernon. Born in Gilbert Plains in 1934, Don grew up on the family farm and at the age of 17 moved to Winnipeg where he began his career as a hardware buyer for Macleod's Canada. It was here he met and fell in love with the love of his life Shirley and they married in 1954. In 1961 Don proudly started D.E. Keats and Associates and successfully ran that enterprise for over 32 years. Throughout this time Don and Shirley pursued many entrepreneurial endeavours and worked hand in hand. In 1965 Don and Shirley bought a small cottage at Caddy Lake in the Whiteshell that played host to many a late night and early morning soirees and served as a gathering point for many friends and family throughout the years. His love of the lake both winter and summer was steadfast. Don was an active member of the community serving as a Director for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1970 to 1987, The Kinsmen Club, K40 Club and the River Heights Community Centre. He was a member of St. Andrews River Heights United Church. A celebration of Don's life will take place on Friday, September 19 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Andrews River Heights United Church, 255 Oak Street at Kingsway with a soiree for friends and family after the service at 255 Wellington Crescent. Mr Keats, Don. I have the fondest memories of you and your family. While married to Gary, I enjoyed many social occasions where you always helped me feel at ease and happy. Laughter was never far from where you were. Thank you for all the support, guidance and advise. We benefited greatly from your wisdom. You will be missed.
