JANET LEA HAMELIN February 1958 September 2008 The family of Janet Hamelin is deeply saddened to announce Jan's sudden passing at her home in Winnipeg on Sunday, September 14. Jan is survived by her parents Blanche (nee Bray) and Tony Hamelin of Portage la Prairie, formerly of Oakville MB; sister Jean (Don) Krampetz of Winnipeg; and brothers Wade (Arlene) of Oak Point and Ian (Kathy) of Winnipeg. She is also survived by nieces Sharron Potvin, Colleen (Jay) Ahnholtz and Erin (Scott) Meyer, nephew Mark (Trish) Hamelin, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins throughout Canada and the United States. Born in New Westminster, BC, Jan lived most of her life in Winnipeg, attending schools in St. James-Assiniboia. She was a lover of animals, particularly horses, a voracious reader, avid sports fan, and a dedicated train watcher'. Jan especially enjoyed family gatherings and week-end visits to Oakville. Time spent with Melba, Ken and cousins Jamie and Lori Bartlett was memorable and special for Jan, and she always appreciated the thoughtfulness and kindness of extended family, particularly that of Lynne Clark and Dale Vosper. Throughout her life Jan faced a number of challenges. Despite these, with the support of family and in particular sister Jean, Jan was able to live a full life independently in the community. Over the past 33 years Jan's independent living was also supported by Winnserv', a non-profit organization that assists adults with disabilities to live independently. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Lynn Woods, Dawn Thiem and the other dedicated present and former staff of Winnserv for their care and kindness to Jan over the years. The family also wishes to express appreciation for the role that Community Venture', another non-profit organization and their staff played in recent years enhancing Jan's well-being and social interaction by including her in their daily programs and weekly social activities. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. Should family and friends so desire, donations may be made in Jan's memory to: Winnserv Foundation Inc., 101-960 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3G 0R4.
