VERNON MITCHELL ZALEVICH January 12, 1941 September 15, 2008 With his brother at his side, Vernon passed away peacefully in his 67th year, on Monday, September 15, 2008, at the Deer Lodge Centre, after a courageous battle with cancer. Vernon is survived by his brother Melvin (Angela) and their children Corinne (Mike), Conrad (Naomie), Christopher (Angie), Eugene and Eric; nephews and nieces Jaremy, Dominique, Katrina, Samuel and Adam; also cousins from the Persowich and Martin family. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Rose Zalevich. Vernon spent his early years at the farm in the Melnice school district. He then went to Teulon school and University of Manitoba and taught for several years in Winnipeg, but he didn't like this profession so he went to further his education at Red River College, taking civil technology. He went to work on the hydro dams in northern Manitoba and Revelstock dam in British Columbia. Vern retired at an early age and lived in Winnipeg. He traveled throughout Manitoba, U.S.A, and Mexico. During his retirement he was still connected to the farm, as he had a garden plot in Charleswood and occasionally did some farm work at the Trappest Monastery in Holland, Manitoba. Vern enjoyed building model planes with his nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2008 in the Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Wayne Morrissey officiating. Interment will take place at the Holy Rosary Cemetery. The family wises to thank the nurses and staff of Deer Lodge Tower 6 East Wing for the excellent care they provided for the last year. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations can be made to Deer Lodge Centre or a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
