Gardner is survived by his mother Beatrice, sister Darlene, his children David (Lori), Heidi (Bob), Ian (Bobbi), their mother Elizabeth and seven grandchildren. A burial service was held in Standbridge East, Quebec.

Dear family and friends of Gardner, Your loved one was a friend of mine I met at work, around 1979. He was a "higher-up" in another department; levels above me in the hierarchy, but treated me with respect and confidence in my ability. We became friends, and he mentored me at the same time. Later he helped me find temporary work when I needed it. On occasion he and I socialized one on one, and a few times with our wives as couples. Then after a while, our paths were no longer parallel. I've thought of Gardner often, with gratitude for knowing him, having him as a friend, and being fellow survivors of nasty corporate cutbacks. And I remember all of you: Liz, David, Heidi, Ian (and mom, heard about her, too though never met her). I send my love and sympathies to you all, and am sorry I never learned of Gardner's death until now. I hope this message will reach you and perhaps give you a good feeling.
