Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNICE GERTRUDE LILLIAN JOHNSTON On Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Victoria Hospital, Bernice Johnston passed away at the age of 79. She leaves to mourn her passing, her beloved husband, Bruce Johnston and four children, John McKenna (Kelly), Colleen Zacharias (Menno), Michael McKenna, and Beth Neufeld (Bruce); grandchildren, Stuart (Sarah), Daniel (Lori), Holly (Ryan), Sonny (Erin), Charles (Vivian), Drew, and Lauren; and great-grandchildren, Madison, Simon, and Chloe. She also leaves to mourn, sisters Pearl and Dorothy. Bernice met the challenges of life with dignity and strength. She was a true lady. First married in 1952 to John Hugh McKenna and widowed in 1957 at a young age with four little children to care for on her own, her unfailing devotion to her family filled our lives with love and taught us the importance of family above all things. A second marriage, to Bruce Johnston, in 1968 brought great happiness into Mom's life and a wonderful father for her four children. Thank you, Dad, for looking after her and all of us all these years. The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring nurses and doctors at Victoria Hospital, especially Dr. Ian Maxwell for his compassionate care. Thank you to Reverend Kevin MacDonald for his prayers and support. Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 22, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 251 Bannerman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. Ian Maxwell Endowment Fund, care of Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy. R3T 9Z9. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.cropo.com. Mom, your memory will be cherished for always. 586-8044

We only met and spoke a few times, but I was grateful for the way Bernice cared about and accepted my late husband. He truly appreciated speaking to his Aunt as she was one of the few blood relatives he got to meet since he was adopted at birth. Bernice was a caring person and I am sure this is a great loss to her family. - Posted by: Audrey Toews () on: Dec 17, 2014

Miss you so much, Grandma. I still think of you often, and hear your encouraging words throughout my days. You always thought the world of your grandkids, and let us know it! Your impact on my life was such a positive one, and continues to be a positive motivator for me to this day. I thank you for always encouraging creativity in me. xoxo - Posted by: Holly Neufeld (McKenna) (Granddaughter) on: Nov 11, 2014
