Left to remember her are sisters, Lois (Doc), Margaret and Ruby (Tom), plus an extended clan of nephews, nieces and their growing families. She was predeceased by her brother Albert Bert (Elaine), sister Joyce, mother Ethel and father Albert. Doris was born in London, England in 1919 and was brought to Canada at an early age. She spent her childhood years in Wolfe and Wilkie, Saskatchewan but primarily in The Pas, Manitoba where through the difficult times of the 1930s she took training as a registered nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital. She subsequently served in the Canadian Army Medical Corps with the rank of 1st lieutenant during the Second World War. Widowed by the accidental death of her husband William (Bill) in 1949, she returned to the nursing profession while raising her sons. After a working career of more than 40 years as a registered nurse or nursing supervisor, mostly at the Winnipeg General Hospital/Health Sciences Centre, she enjoyed 25 years of retirement. She was greatly supported by her family and the friends she made through her volunteer activities primarily at St. Luke's Church.
