CARLYLE WILLIAM CONQUIST, DFC Carlyle William (Lyle) Conquist was born in Kamsack, Saskatchewan on April 20, 1919. He passed away peacefully in Winnipeg on September 13, 2008, in his 90th year, the last surviving of nine brothers and sisters born to Elva Mae and Conrad William Conquist. Loving husband of Joyce (nee Allison) of Roland, Manitoba for 57 years. Loving father of Jon Leonard, Gregory William, and Lori Ann. Father-in-law of Maria Elena Conquist and Lawrence Enns. Devoted grandfather of Kerry, Trevor and Rylee Enns of Winnipeg and Stefan and Diego Conquist of Victoria, and cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. Lyle attended Gordon Bell High School before enlisting in 1940 and serving as a decorated pilot (S/L) in the Middle East and Europe from 1942-1945 with RCAF Squadrons 70, 428 and 431. Postwar, he worked in sales with National Cash Register and Investors Syndicate until 1964 when he became Administrator of the family business, the Conquist Nursing Home, until his retirement in 1987. He was Past President of the Winnipeg Kiwanis Club, the Long Term Care Association of Manitoba, and the Association of Wartime Pilots and Observers, Past Master of St. John's Masonic Lodge, and a volunteer for various good causes. He was a great husband, father and brother, a loyal friend, a dedicated community man and a fair and compassionate employer.
