DANIEL BROWN MCMONAGLE August 11, 1916 - September 23, 2008 On Tuesday, September 23, 2008 Daniel Brown McMonagle, earlier of Otterbourne, MB, died in his sleep, at his residence, Calvary Place in Winnipeg. Predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Mary McMonagle (nee Schapansky) on April 9, 2004 and by his five brothers and two sisters, he leaves his and Mary's five sons and daughters: Duncan (Verena Unger) of Winnipeg; Esme (Dawna Reid) of Toronto, Trevor (Ruth) of Campbell River, BC, Basil (Ariana) of Edmonton, AB and Iris Smith (Terry) of Port Sydney, ON; eight grandchildren: Natalie Martin (Sean) and Graham McMonagle (Roberta Taylor), Ethan and Andrew McMonagle, Lindsay and Sean Smith and Jon and Gina McMonagle; and two great-grand-children, Jasmine Martin and Ariana Smith. Brown was born in the district of Ture, near Londonderry in Northern Ireland which he always regarded as Home . Saved by God's grace in May 1938 through 1 John 5:11. He immigrated to Canada in 1948 and married Mary in 1949. Brown worked in Winnipeg at George McLean Wholesale Grocers and Codville Distributors Ltd. before retiring in 1975 with Mary to a farm at Otterbourne where they lived until 2000. They were longtime members of the West End Gospel Hall in Winnipeg. Though my friends despise, forsake me And on me the world looks cold, I have one who will stand by me When the pearly gates unfold. Long, long by faith I've known him But now I'm gone to see The very man Christ Jesus The man who died for me. And when at last in glory His beauty I behold I'll say like her of Sheba, The half was never told. Funeral service conducted by Mr. Jack Gould will be held on Thursday, September 25 at 1:30 p.m. in the Neil Bardal Funeral Chapel, 984 Portage Ave., Winnipeg (Aubrey St. entrance) with reception to follow. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will take place one hour before the service. The family thanks the caring and skilled staff at Calvary Place for the care of Brown. If friends so desire, contributions to Calvary Place Personal Care Home, 1325 Erin Street, Winnipeg, MB R3E 3R6 would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to: Ronald Moffit Memorial Services (204) 856-3487
