MORLEY JAMES MINOR 1929 - 2008 It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Morley James Minor on September 22, 2008 at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg after a short illness. Morley's passing leaves his wife of 53 years, Joan Minor (Keen), sons: Andrew (Trina), David (Christine Hall) and grandchildren: Erin, Ryan, Miles, Alexander, Madeline and Lisa with a huge void in their lives. Morley is also survived by sisters: Eula Chrest of Sundre, Alberta; Peggy Harris of Carnduff, Saskatchewan, and brother, Bill Minor of Olds, Alberta; as well as many, many more nieces and nephews. Morley was predeceased by his mother Fern Minor (Dickinson), his father, Arthur James Minor, brothers Eugene (Bud) Minor and Claude Minor. Morley lost his daughter-in-law, Shelley Minor (Leclair) in 2000, and son, Gregory Minor in 2002. Morley was born and raised on the farm in Carnduff, Saskatchewan where his parents took out a homestead in the 1920s. Morley never ever forgot his roots and visited home very often. After leaving home to complete high school in Glen Ewen, Saskatchewan, Morley began working for the Bank of Montreal eventually relocating to Winnipeg. It was at the Bank of Montreal, Portage and Goulding Branch that Morley met his sweetheart Joan Keen; and they were married in September 1955. In 1958, Morley graduated from the University of Manitoba with a B.Sc in Electrical Engineering, and began working for Manitoba Hydro where he spent his entire working career. Morley and Joan lived in the various Hydro towns throughout northern Manitoba where they enjoyed curling, dancing and developed many, many life long friendships. Morley and Joan were transferred to Winnipeg in 1966 and that is where they remained to raise their family. Morley retired from Manitoba Hydro in 1992 and until his passing was a proud member of Hydro X. In 1972 Morley and Joan took over the Keen family cottage at Whytewold Beach where they enjoyed many friends, summers, autumns and even parts of some winters. Morley was an avid gardener, builder, and outdoorsman. Morley grew the best potato crop on Sansome Avenue for 35 years and snowshoed on the even the coldest winter days up to last year. Mostly though, Morley was about people; about family; about helping others. Morley was always interested in whatever you were doing or whatever you had to say. Morley was always inclusive and showered everyone around him with love; especially his grandchildren. Morley will be sadly missed by all. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 29, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Kirkfield Park United Church, 472 Kirkfield St., Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff and the Salvation Army Chaplains at the Grace Hospital for their help and care during Morley's final days. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Liver Foundation. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
