GERALD WALTER KOROLYK In the early morning of Wednesday, September 24, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer, Gerald left this world and peacefully passed on to the hands of the Lord where he will suffer no more. Gerald was born on May 21, 1949 and grew up on the farm near Winnipeg Beach. He attended Prout School, Gimli Composite High School and then completed a carpentry course at Red River Community College. He married his high school sweetheart, Marion Wawrykow on July 31, 1971 and for the most part of their 37 years together, they resided in the beautiful house that was built with his own loving hands. With his love of carpentry he has left his trademark and beauty in many different places and his legacy will live on and be enjoyed by others for many years to come. Gerald spent many seasons hunting with his buddies, enjoying the companionship, the many games of horseshoes and also many games of crib. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed the peace and tranquility at the cabin where everyone was welcome and where everyone had to register by autographing the walls. He enjoyed working on the garden, planting, reaping, making pickles, jams and other treats and then sharing with friends and family. Gerald was predeceased by his father, Walter, and his in-laws Dan and Mary Wawrykow. He is survived by his loving wife Marion; his mother Jean; his sister Charlotte (Richard); brothers, Jack and Ken (Laura); brothers-in-law, Waldi (Joyce), Michael (Colleen); sisters-in-law, Betty (Bob) and Margy, numerous aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and all his many friends. He will also be greatly missed by his pet dog Mogli. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Monday, September 29, 2008 at the Fraserwood Hall at 10:30 a.m. Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance. We all love you and will deeply miss you. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3. Gilbart Funeral Homes, Selkirk and Gimli in care of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Losing our friends before their time is always a struggle, losing Gerald is a tragedy. When I was a young air force brat with no real roots, Gerald shared his friendship, his family and farm with me and helped make Gimli my real home. His kindness and very developed sense of humour were hallmarks of that time and of his life. He became a craftsman and built a fine life with Marion, he was happy and fulfilled. His friends were all the richer for having Gerald in their lives. I will think of him often and miss him always. - Posted by: Craig Davies (Friend) on: Sep 29, 2008
