JOHN ALEXANDER 1931 - 2008 Suddenly on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, John Alexander passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 77 years. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Ethel Alexander, brother Neil and sister Ethel Maynard of Halifax, NS. He is lovingly remembered by Mary Jurek; children, Gloria Jones and Bill Jurek; granddaughter Laura (Dean); brother Donald Alexander of Medicine Hat, AB, and numerous nieces and nephews. John was born in Winnipeg and raised in Kirkfield. He was employed with City Dairies as a milkman for a short time and left to join the army. John spent several years in Korea during the Korean War, and upon his return commenced employment with Jackson Bros. Eventually, John returned to his first career choice and started employment with Crescent Creamery as a milkman and supervisor. At the age of 52, and over 25 years of being a milkman, John decided to retire. A year later he started to work part-time at St. Charles Country Club doing ground maintenance. This is where John's interest in golf started. John enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and loved family get-togethers, especially barbeques. He had a love of sports, such as football and especially golf, and enjoyed going to see the Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball games. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
