ORTON RIDDELL HARPER 1913 - 2008 Orton passed away peacefully on September 25th, 2008 at West Park Manor. Orton is survived by his loving wife Ruby, son Bruce (Lynn), granddaughter Rochelle (Glen); great-grandson Gavin; grandson Derrek (Honelie); great-granddaughter Madeline; daughter Helen; granddaughter Paula (Ted), granddaughter Shannon (Scott) and grandson Tyler. Orton was born in Reston, Manitoba where his parents homesteaded. After leaving the farm as a young man Orton arrived in Winnipeg where he met Ruby Acheson, marrying in 1939. He held a number of different jobs until joining the Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. After his discharge Orton and Ruby moved to Charleswood in 1950 and have been active members of St. Mary's Anglican Church. Orton worked for the Winnipeg Transit System until his retirement. Contracting polio in the early 1950s put his renowned ingenuity and patience to the test. Orton enjoyed many years as Tiny the Clown with the Shiners bringing joy and goodwill to young and old alike. He was a proud member of the 100 Charleswood Legion as well as the Charleswood Lodge No. 163. The family extends their gratitude to the devoted staff of West Park Manor for their compassion and care. We will be celebrating Orton's full and significant life on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Mary's Anglican Church, 3830 Roblin Blvd. Flowers are gratefully declined.
