RUTH TOEWS (nee DAVIDSON) 1930 - 2008 Ruth passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, September 29 at the Grace Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Ike, of 55 years; her son Terry (Cathy Bowen); daughters, Retha Funk (Ken), Diane McRorie (Todd) and Julie Groot (Lorne); her precious grandchildren, Aaron, Matt, Alie, Cuyla, Hannah and Eric. She was predeceased by her father John Davidson, stepfather Peter Thompson, mother Martha Thompson and brother Orville. She is survived by one sister, Hilda Barr of Brandon. Ruth was born at Oak River, Manitoba on the family farm, May 7, 1930. She later moved to Brandon, graduated from high school, then attended the University of Manitoba, graduating with a BSc. in Home Economics in 1952. While in residence she met her future husband Ike. Prior to their marriage, Ruth worked as an Occupational Therapist in Ninette at the T.B. Hospital. Shortly after their marriage in 1953, Ruth and Ike began their family, culminating in four children. Mom was extremely generous with her unconditional love not only for her family but to all those she met. She took great joy in her grandchildren, attending her wild flower gardens and caring for wayward sparrows. Ruth's summers were filled with family and friends at the cottage near Kenora. An important group in her life was the members and their Ladies of the Shriner's Fife and Drum Band. Ruth and Ike spent many of their winters in warmer locations. She treasured their many visits to Barbados. A highlight in recent years was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in Italy and Greece. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at the United Church in Meadowood, 1111 Dakota St., on Saturday, October 4 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army, P.O.
