JOHN WENGIER Peacefully, in his sleep, it is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather (Didi) on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Victoria Hospital, Winnipeg, at the age of 88. Left to treasure his memory is his loving wife of 64 years, Nadia; daughter Shirley and son-in-law John Medwid; his three apples of his eye his grandchildren, Larissa, Tara and Zorian Medwid. John was born October 5, 1919 in Sadowa Vishna, Rutki, Ukraine. He was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage. In the spring of 1949, John came to Canada and for a short time worked at the sugar beet farms in Carman, Manitoba. A short time later his talents as a blacksmith were recognized and he began work at Vulcan Iron Engineering in 1950. John worked in the steel industry for various companies for 31 years. Dad was a hardworking man and such a perfectionist at his trade. He also enjoyed collecting old money, playing bingo, family picnics, fishing and camping, but his greatest joy later in life was spending special time with all his grandchildren. Zorian would like to send a big Thank you to Dido for buying him his first bike with gears. John was a kind and generous man and you could always count on him to lend a helping hand. He also had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs. He enjoyed time spent with his dogs Penny, and Tanya, his beloved miniature Eskimo dog. The family would like to thank Dr. Kristjanson and the wonderful nurses at Seven Oaks Hospital and to the staff of Vista Park Lodge for their care and compassion. We are all going to miss you Dido and you will remain in our hearts forever. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 3 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4 at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir and Olga, 115 McGregor St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations if you should so desire may be given to the Kidney or Diabetes Foundation and would be most appreciated. VICHNAYA PAMYAT What Makes a Dad God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight, The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need, Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it...Dad. - Author Unknown - KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
