ROBERT GLENN PLAXTON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Bob , surrounded by family and friends, on September 13, 2008 in the Muskoka area. Loving husband to Margaret (nee Knowles) for 43 years. Devoted father to Bruce (Cheryl), Jill (Vince) and Laura (Geoff). Cherished grandfather to Jordie, Avery and Sasha. Adored brother of Gary (Louise), Jim (Stephanie) and Jill (Michael). He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends. His parents, John Plaxton and Jean Moffitt, predeceased him. Bob was born in Winnipeg on February 22, 1939 and was raised in the Crescentwood area. His love of theatre was born while attending University of Manitoba, and led to performances on Rainbow Stage and on television, and this continued as a lifelong love of the performing arts. As a young man he was a fishing guide at Separation Lake in Ontario and carried this passion throughout the rest of his life. In 1964 he married his soulmate, Margi, and they had three children together. Bob was a wonderful father and was affectionately known by his children as the best daddy in the universe . He was very involved in his kids lives, coaching several of their sports teams, and always being there for them to give them advice and make them laugh. He began his career with Price Waterhouse in 1965. During his tenure he spent two years in the New York office as director of Audit Research for the PW world firm. He returned to Winnipeg for 10 years as the managing partner, and then spent six years in Montreal. He retired in 1998. As a businessman he served in many capacities, and was on numerous boards. Bob enjoyed his career at Price Waterhouse and the firm recognized his talents, and rewarded him with many exciting opportunities. He was named a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba in 1974. Bob was very active in the community. He was a director of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, on the board of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and was a loyal supporter of the Winnipeg Folk Festival, which he attended every summer. He also loved the outdoors, adored his island cottage at Lake of the Woods where he could often be seen cruising the lake in his big yellow boat . He spent his retirement years travelling the world with Margi, spending long summers at the cottage and visiting his children and grandchildren. Bob was a gifted singer and storyteller, and kept his family and friends entertained with his offbeat sense of humour. He had the ability to connect with people of all ages and all walks of life. If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet or the Winnipeg Folk Festival. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten. We love you.
