GARY HUNTER Peacefully after a long struggle with leukemia and then lung cancer, Gary Hunter passed away on October 3, 2008 at the age of 63. He was surrounded by loving family on his last day and spent the last weeks being cared for by the dedicated Riverview Palliative Care team. Gary is survived by Vicky, his wife and soul mate of over 40 years, his daughter Randi (Dennis) and son A.J. (Kristina). He adored his two grandchildren, Tekla and Ellis and tolerated A.J. and Kristina's dog Maddison even offering the occasional pat! Also surviving Gary are his two brothers Al (Jean) and Ross (Elizabeth). Thanks to our family, friends and neighbours for their support during this difficult time. Gary enjoyed golfing, baseball, fishing, curling and game playing. He will be remembered for creating his own set of rules for most card/dice games Hunter's Rules . Gary loved introducing his grandkids to games and they enjoyed hours of fun playing crokinole with smarties and dice for money. He loved classic rock music from the 70s and embarrassed us with his dance moves on the floor. We will remember great summer family camping trips and his patience teaching us how to fish. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Special thanks to all the medical professionals who cared for Gary (Riverview 3 East and Health Sciences GD6) and we are very grateful to nurse Barb and aid Barb who supported us as much as Gary in his last hours. In his remembrance, please continue to donate blood or consider starting transfusions and a bone marrow transplant gave him extra years. Rest in peace Pop! We love you and are glad you are finally at peace and pain free.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Spent lots of time at Gary’s on Mountain Ave. Near St. Joseph’s Dairy. Playing crochonole, eating sandwiches and beef stew. Gathering at his place on Christmas while father and stepmom and Ross ? and Al went to ? Whiteshell. When the cats away! Precious memories from teens, especially 12y to 15y, but we met at 10 and played together regularly. I remember 6-man football at CUAC? Brother Al and Jerry Boehm coached us. LOL. I remember their color tv! B&W with a red blue green screen over it. LOL. I recall Gary was a Red Wing fan. I was a Hab fan. I remember the table hockey games. Also that fateful Xmas at 14 when Gary and I were waiting for the police with the Bible, terrified! I’ll always remember you Gary. I don’t know how he got to call me ‘Stein’ though. ‘May’ I could understand. I only just now decided to look him up. Love you Gary. You’re always a part of me.
