MURRAY EDWIN MAINLAND March 4, 1938 - October 3, 2008 Peacefully on October 3, 2008 at Concordia Hospital, Murray Edwin Mainland passed away at the age of 70. He leaves to mourn his son Gregory, daughter Kathleen (Rodney), granddaughter Bree and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father William; mother Grace; sisters, Mildred, Eleanor and Freda; brothers, Ian and Earl; nephew Myles and uncles, Jim and Archie. Murray was born in Lestock, Saskatchewan and moved to Winnipeg with his family in 1948. He attended Lord Selkirk High School and upon completion in 1955 he began a four year apprenticeship program in the Painting and Decorating trade. He was proud to have been taught by master tradesmen from Sweden and Germany and he really enjoyed working with colour. In 1987 he ventured into his own business as he liked to have the direct communication with his private clientele. Murray enjoyed many sports including hockey, curling and in his younger days scuba diving. He also coached hockey for many years at Gateway Community Club. Murray always enjoyed music and took up the Saxophone in his later years. The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff at Concordia Hospital for all of their care and kindness. Dad, your artistic skill left the world a more beautiful place, may you rest in peace. A gathering in honour of Murray's memory will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9 at Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave.
