JOAN ZALUSKI (nee BESYK) It is with deep sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Joan Zaluski on Friday, October 3, 2008 at the age of 66 years old, after a long and hard battle with diabetes. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Patti and Louis Matyus; son Leslie Zaluski (Cindy) and two beautiful granddaughters, Brittany and Kirsten Matyus who were her two angels. Also left to mourn is her sister Judy Stanko (John), brother Barry Besyk (Diane), brother Gerry Besyk (Judy) and brother Ken Besyk (Mercy) along with numerous nieces, nephews as well as her former husband Don Zaluski (Jeannette) who remained friends until the end. Joan was predeceased by her mother and father, Olga and John; her sister Dianna and her brother-in-law Norman. Joan was born on June 3, 1942 in Winnipeg Beach, where at a young age she left school to help raise her brothers and sisters. But that did not stop her from doing what she always wanted to do and that was to finish her education. In 1984 along with her daughter Patti, they attended Red River College where Joan received her grade 11 and a certificate in Business Accountancy. She worked at the Winnipeg Sun for many years on weekends and on weekdays at Josten's Canada. Her health deteriorated in the spring of 2003 and that is when she began going three times a week to Dialysis at Seven Oaks Hospital right up until her death. Although, because of her health, she was limited to what she could do, her spirits were always up. She was a very talented woman; she could sew, knit, crochet, and bake anything. She was always there for her children, whether it was sitting in a cold arena in the middle of summer watching Patti figure skate or watching Les in his Cub Scout's parade, she supported her children 100%. Patti, Louis, Les and Cindy wish to thank all the wonderful staff at Seven Oaks Hospital Dialysis unit for always taking good care of mom, as she always talked highly of you all. We also want to thank the home care workers who helped mom everyday. She loved all of you and talked about you to us all the time. At mom's request, cremation has taken place and a burial will be held at a later date. A Funeral Service will be held, Friday, October 10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James United Church, 234 Parkview St., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in mom's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Mom, we love you and will miss you dearly.
