Henry started in the construction industry working for Bird Construction in Winnipeg during the Second World War. In 1945 he began building houses and founded Neustaedter Construction Ltd. He had a successful career in the homebuilding industry as well as in commercial construction. Henry retired in 1976 and moved to Vernon, B.C. with his wife Maria to enjoy retirement, be closer to their daughter Hildy, and spend time fishing. Following Henry's retirement to Vernon he was also active in his community. He was on the Court of Revision from 1986 to 1989 and he joined the Shubert Centre. He felt the Shubert Centre made an important contribution to the community and enjoyed visiting for lunch and listen to the music.
