AGNES SETTEE Peacefully, at home on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, Agnes Settee (nee Thomas). Mom was born June 14, 1914 at Balsam Bay to Alexander and Helen Thomas. She was predeceased by her parents, her three brothers, Phillip, Alec (Doris), and Albert; four sisters, Alice Orvis (Isaac), Fanny Orvis (Sam), Delphine Thomas and Mary Guimond, our father Stanley Nanowin and stepfather, Clifford Settee. She was also predeceased by two daughters, Muriel Nanowin and Helen Jubinville, and grandsons Mark Jubinville, Chris Dubois, Jamie Samaine and children of Clifford Flett. She leaves to mourn her six daughters, Mary Ellen (Maxine) Thomas, Lorna Nanowin, Joan Nanowin, Rita Stephanson (David), Mary (Agnes) Barker, and Eileen Bushie (Rod) and her stepson Walter Nanowin (Jean) as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, niece Carol Blatz (Harry), nephews Wayne Thomas and Frank Orvis (Helen) and many great nieces and nephews. Dear Mother was a beacon of light in all our lives. She had many great qualities, among them honesty, compassion, integrity and a selfless love for family. She was our inspiration for family cohesiveness, strength and love for one another. We will miss your loving hugs and your gentle hands. Toward the last few years of her life she experienced loss of sight, loss of hearing and weakness of limbs. Her family and visitors became an even stronger lifeline to the outside world. She constantly inquired about all those who had once touched her life from Matheson Island, Selkirk, Winnipeg, Balsam Bay, Traverse Bay, Grand Marais, Fort Alexander, Powerview, Poplar River, Hollow Water, Bloodvein, Princess Harbor, Pine Dock and Fisher Bay. The family wishes to thank mom's primary caregivers, Chris Pruden and Terra Kohle for their daily strong compassionate care of mom for the past ten months. We would also like to thank Home Care for their efforts on mom's behalf and the Home Care aides who looked after her at night, especially Anne who always had kind words and gentle hands, and also Kristen who Mom jokingly called Brokenfoot. A special thanks to Sharon who made mom comfortable and prepared us for the last few minutes of mom's life. Also a very special thanks to Shirley and George Edginton who were mom's dear friends throughout her life. Thank you Dr. Zoppa for your diligent care of our mother. Funeral prayers will be held at Gilbart's in Selkirk on Friday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. after which lunch will be served at the home of Eileen and Rod Bushie, 526 Sinclair Avenue in Selkirk. Funeral services will take place at Gilbart's on Saturday, October 11 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Luke's Cemetery in Balsam Bay, Manitoba. Lunch to be served at Grand Marais Complex. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Lorne Clearsky, Hjortur Helgason, Ivar Helgason, Erin Stephanson, Clifford Flett and Lloyd Dubois. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
