Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY MABEL GURR At 96, following a brief illness, Dorothy Mabel Gurr passed away August 13, 2008 at the Victoria General Hospital. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, George Herbert and Ellen Mabel Gurr (nee Wilton), brother George Edgar Gurr of Osoyoos, BC, and sister Constance Magel of Winnipeg. She is survived by her brother James Leslie Gurr of Winnipeg, nieces, Geonell Gurr of Kelowna, BC, Carol Hennessy of Ponoka, AB, Leah Sheremata of Miami, FL, nephew Paul Magel of Winnipeg and many great and great great-nieces and nephews. Dorothy resided in Winnipeg during her entire 96 years, employed for a remarkable 52 years by the Country Guide and Public Press where at only 14, she began working in 1926. In her retirement Dorothy devoted herself to her knitting, an activity that was a lifelong passion she pursued to her final days. Dorothy will be remembered for her remarkable memory, her positive disposition and her ability to see the good in everything and everyone. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (4000 Portage Ave., just west of the Perimeter) on Saturday, October 11 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to the Salvation Army Memorial Fund, PO Box 1932, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3R2.
