DESMOND HART PITTS February 1, 1918 - October 7, 2008 Peacefully on October 7, 2008 Desmond Pitts passed away at Deer Lodge Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Desmond will be so sadly missed by his loving wife, Lavonne, after 61 years of a healthy, happy marriage. His brother Kenneth and wife Hilda, sister Una Ferguson and niece Patty, all of Victoria, BC. His sisters-in-law Phyllis and Bob Munson of Red Deer, AB, and Shirley Broughton of Camrose, AB, and loads of nieces and nephews. Desmond was born in Northiam, Sussex, England and came to Winnipeg when he was two years old with his parents, Frank and Kate Pitts. In 1937 he began his career with the Hudson's Bay Company as a trainee in the fur trade department in Fort St. James, BC. and ending 40 years later as general manager of Northern Stores. In 1942 he joined the RCAF Air Crew and eventually as a Navigator on heavy bombers (Halifaxes) 432 Squadron. He later was called to 5 group at Middleton, St. George's to take over 408 Squadron as Navigation Officer with promotion to Flight Lieutenant. His retirement allowed him his love of sports by any media, but his favourite to play was golf at St. Charles and in wintertime mainly at Bay Point, Florida. Cremation has taken place, and no services will be held. Thanks to all the staff on 3East Riverview for their wonderful care of Des, also the Oncology Department at Grace Hospital, and to Deer Lodge Centre for the last part of his stay.
