STEPHEN (STEVE) LAYTON LISTER In the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 8, 2008, we lost a great man, Stephen Layton Lister - just 63 days short of his 89th birthday. His wish was to spend his remaining days at home surrounded by his family. That wish was granted. He leaves to mourn his passing, Elsie, his loving wife and life partner of 54 years and their six children and their families - Wendy Lister and Ray Boyko; Val and Ted Lewis (their children T.J. and Laura Lewis; Sherry and Ben Andrusco and their children Benjamin and Isaiah; Sandy and Rick Hordijk); Bev and Don Edwards (their son Cody); Cindi and Jerry Fey (their children Tara (Bruce); Danielle and Jodie Fey; William Lister daughter Natasha; and Heather and James Pickering (his children Emily and Hanna). He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Steve is also survived by a brother Peter (Gwen) Lister and family also a sister, Mary Lister of Winfield, BC. Steve grew up in the Tyndall, MB area and lived in Selkirk for the past 59 years in the family home that he built. For many years he was involved in the construction industry as a carpenter. He was then employed by the Selkirk Mental Hospital for 20 years as an instructor in the Vocational Shop. Many happy occasions were spent with his family and friends at the cabin at Nutimik Lake in the Whiteshell. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Our dad was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed his carpentry skills. He was a loving husband to our mom and a wonderful father who shared his wisdom, advice and sense of humor with his children. Dad enjoyed nothing better than to have stimulating debates with anyone about ... anything! Many fun filled times were spent with his grandchildren playing the Aggravation board game. Dad was also blessed to be a great grandfather to two special little boys. Our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated and compassionate home care workers who came to the house over the past several months to care for our dad. To honour dad's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations can be made to either the MB Lung Association or the Heart and Stroke Association. We will love you forever always, Daddy-O! Gilbart's Funeral Home in Selkirk has been entrusted with arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I last saw Steve and his good wife, Elsie, in 2002 and we shared memories of the 50's He was a man I much admired and would run errands for to Shed's store. When I told the story of "the board and paint it green" he corrected it immediately as: "No, a stick" and Elsie moaned "Oh, Steve" as a good wife should! Much love to all his family Tony Mulder (Teun whom Mary called Terry) - Posted by: Tony Mulder (Neighbour in the 1950's) on: Oct 23, 2017
