EDMUND ANTON HARZAN 1937 - 2008 There are few people that would disagree that we have lost a truly remarkable man due to a tragic accident. From being a young boy needing to flee the war to a successful business man to a philosopher to a man with great bear hugs, Edmund was it all. Immigrating from Austria at the age of 18, Edmund began a business in Winnipeg. After a couple of years he was able to bring his bride to be from Austria. Hilde and Edmund married in Winnipeg and had two children, Doris and Peter and two grandchildren who he loved dearly. The next 48 years of marriage was filled with extreme highs and lows. He stayed connected to Austria and took his family on numerous trips to Austria. Edmund became heavily involved in the church, was president of the Austrian Club was devoted to his family and any friends that needed help. Edmund loved the cabin where he would read books on subjects from religion to grieving to healthy living which led him to be well versed in most topics of the day. He loved his walks, skating, skiing, bike riding, gardening and swimming. Edmund was an avid patron of the arts including opera, theatre, ballet and symphony. Four years ago Edmund and Hilde lost their daughter Doris. She was his life. His grief led him to the Compassionate Friends who were a strength for him and continue to be for Hilde at this time. Edmund's plans were to become more involved in the group as he had become a strength for new members both men and women. His caring, compassionate, often humorous and generous personality made him loved by so many. He became uncle to many younger friends and will be missed greatly by all that knew him. Edmund was a devoted loving husband and father and a fun Opa. To everything there is a season A time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 Edmund we miss and love you forever Servus
