SHIRLEY ANN JENSEN (nee ERICKSON) With great sadness and love, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Shirley Ann Jensen (nee Erickson) on Monday, October 20, 2008, at the family cottage at Twin Beaches, St. Laurent. Shirley was born November 30, 1935, in Waterhen, Manitoba to Asmunder and Hazel Erickson, the second child of four. She attended School at Waterhen, Lake Francis, St. Laurent and Langruth. After finishing Grade 11, Mom traveled to Winnipeg and worked as a clerk for a paint company. In 1955, she met Wray Jensen at a dance in Argyle, Manitoba, and they were married on May 16, 1956. Shirley had a number of volunteer jobs until her children were of school age and then started working part time at Eaton's in 1978. Mom was an active member of the Catholic Church, and Catholic Women's League. She belonged to a bowling league and then took up golfing. Mom was a wonderful cook, good seamstress, and loved needlepoint, petit-point and knitting. Mom was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Teulon and South Interlake Golf and Country Club, Ladies League. Both Mom and Dad were very active in the community and were recognized both in Stonewall and St. Laurent for their volunteering spirit. Their many travels together included France, where they lived for four years, London, England, where they enjoyed the theatre, pubs, fish and chips, and in the last few years, Texas, where they golfed and enjoyed the warmer temperatures. Her greatest enjoyment in life, besides her ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild, was her cottage at St. Laurent. There she spent much time planting flowers, renovating, painting, mowing, enjoying long walks on the beach under the golden sunsets and watching her grandchildren grow. Those that knew her well will know that she watches over us from heaven. She leaves to mourn; her loving Husband, Wray, daughters, Jacqueline (Don MacDonald), Patricia (Doug Allen), Christina (Dan MacDonald), son, Peter (Deborah Jensen) and grandchildren, Riley, Tayler and Avery MacDonald, Jeffrey and Myles Hidlebaugh, Tristen Allen, Jessie and Braydon MacDonald, Justin and Kaitlyn Jensen and great-granddaughter Nikki Hawn. Shirley is also survived by her sisters, Florence (George Henry), and Joyce (Denny Proctor), sisters-in-law, Janet Erickson (Ernest), Audrey (Nick Lebedeff) and brother-in-law, Ross Jensen (Maudie). Mom was predeceased by her father, Asmunder Erickson, in 1975, mother, Hazel Erickson, in 1994, and her brother, Ernest Erickson, in 2006. Honorary pallbearers include all of Mom's grandchildren and close friends. Mass will be held Christ the King, Catholic Church, Stonewall, Manitoba at 7:00 p.m., Thursday October 23, 2008, and a Funeral Service will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2008, lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley's name to Stonewall Palliative Care or a charity of your choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
