MILDRED LOUISE NORQUAY (nee RILEY) On October 25, 2008 at Riverview Health Centre, Mildred passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family members, after a long, full and happy life. Mildred was born in Morris, Manitoba on April 16, 1920, the daughter of Annie Elizabeth Hay and George Riley. Mildred was predeceased by her first husband, Flt. Sgt. C. J. C. (Jack) Norquay in the Second World War, and her brother, George Stuart Riley. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Scott Norquay, her six children, John Cameron Norquay (Anna Marie), Linda Louise Norquay, Donald Scott Norquay (Glenda), Darlene Audrey Shirley Thiessen (Abe), Kathryn Anne Johnston (David), and Ronald James Norquay, her foster daughter from Sri Lanka, Heather Law (Jim), and her 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. Mildred was a devoted wife and mother. She was immensely proud of her family and was always there when they needed her. She loved to spend her summers at Gull Lake and then Beaconia, Manitoba, where she could often be found picking blueberries before the bears could get them. She retired with Scott to Beaconia, where they were able to cross-country ski together in winter and stay fit swimming and clearing rocks from the beach in summer. She also enjoyed traveling to places around the world including Europe, Australia, and Israel, and especially appreciated her yearly vacations on Maui with Scott. Mildred will be missed by every member of her extended family, and her many friends, including the staff of Riverview Health Centre, where she resided the past 7 years. Mildred’s family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to the Riverview staff for their devoted care and support over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation in Mildred’s memory would be greatly appreciated. Visitation will be at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, on Tuesday, October 28 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Prayers and visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30, at St. Andrews on the Red Anglican Church, 3 St. Andrews Road at 1:30 p.m. Reception to follow.
