EVA LOEWEN (nee JONATSCHICK) 1920 - 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother Eva Loewen on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Oakview Place. Eva was predeceased by her husband George, daughter Pat Hannah and son-in-law Hugh Clancy. She is survived by her children Linda, Allan and Raymond, her son-in-law Ron, her daughters-in-law Mary Ann and Madeleine, her grandchildren Christine and Celine, Jason and Jarrett, Ryan and Kelly, Nicole and Meaghan and her eight cherished great-grandchildren. Eva always placed her family above all. She was a loving and unselfish mother, grandmother and friend who was adored and loved for her sense of humour, her deep devotion and loyalty to her family, and for her ability to light up a room with her zest for life and love of people. Her children and grandchildren were her world and we are forever grateful for the legacy she leaves behind as the best mother and grandmother a child could ever have been blessed with. Some of Mom's greatest pleasures were knitting slippers and afghans for family and baking for others, whether it was for her family, neighbours, friends, relatives or her grandchildren. Nobody turned down a Gramma Loewen sugar cookie! It is with happiness and pride that we share this recipe with all her friends and in doing so remember and honour her for years to follow. Sugar Cookies 1 c. Imperial margarine softened 1 ½ c. white sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 1 egg 2 ½ c. flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cream of tartar ¼ tsp. salt A sprinkle of love Cream butter, sugar, vanilla. Beat in egg. Gradually stir in dry ingredients. Mix and knead. Chill 1 hour. Divide into 4 parts. On a lightly floured surface, roll to ¼ inch thick. Cut with cookie cutter. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Makes 4 dozen. Special thanks to the nursing staff of Oakview Extendicare for the support and care given to our mother while she was a resident. Cremation has taken place. According to Eva's wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eva's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Hey Gram, What's Cookin?
