Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON STANLEY BISHOP SR. With his family by his side, Gordon Bishop Sr. of Ste. Rose du Lac passed away at the Ste. Rose General Hospital on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the age of 80 years. Gordon was born on September 23, 1928 in Hearst, Ontario, the eldest of 11 children, four boys and seven girls. Following his education, Gordon joined the army as soon as he was able at the age of 17 years and served for five years. He married Jeannine Hamelin on September 22, 1951 and following their marriage, they moved to Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba. Gordon had many jobs over his lifetime. He worked for MTS, Thompson Construction Company, on the construction of the Ste. Rose Hospital and for Ste. Rose Transfer. Eventually, he purchased Ste. Rose Transfer and added the businesses of Sears, Liquor Mart, Coop Insurance and a hairdressing shop. Gordon also served as mayor of Ste. Rose du Lac. Gordon moved on to the AFM in 1982 working as an addictions counselor and was encouraged to retire in 2003 at the age of 75 years. He then served on the board of the Parkland Regional Health Authority for three years. In the past few years, Gordon's health declined and he remained at home until the last three weeks of his life. Gordon was predeceased by his parents, his sister Joanie, his mother and father-in-law Louise and Victor Hamelin, his brothers-in-law John Taylor and Ken Glover and his son-in-law Steve Bogoslowski. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish many fond memories; his beloved wife of 57 years, Jeannine Bishop of Ste. Rose du Lac; his children, Peggy Delaurier, Gordon Jr. (Rosy), Debby Bishop, Pam Bishop, Lisa Bishop (Gilles Ferland) and Vicki Bishop; his 11 grand-children, Brian Kauste (Tina), Christine Lafond (Joel), Teresa Wendland (Corey), Tom Delaurier (Cher), Kelly Delaurier, Jamey Bishop (Ashley), Shawn Bishop (Courtney), Pvt. Justin Joey Critch, Jessica Bishop, Justine Ferland and Noah Ferland. His eight great-grandchildren, Carly Lafond, Olivia Lafond, Rainey Delaurier, Sabrina and Halen, Ethyn and Elijah Kauste, and Ethan Bishop Brink. Memorial service for Gordon will be held on Saturday, November 1 at 10:30 a.m. in the Ste. Rose Community Centre. Mrs. Brenda Puchailo will officiate. The service will conclude at the hall with interment at a later date. Urnbearer will be Gordon's granddaughter Christine Lafond. All of his grandchildren are to consider themselves as honorary urnbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Gordon to Palliative Care at Ste. Rose Hospital in care of the Prevost Foundation, or to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba. The family would like to thank John Hamelin, Angele Delaurier, Verna Brown and her family, Ryan Raffray of Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services, Ste. Rose Chapel and the United Church Ladies' Auxiliary.
