ALBERT MELNICK Albert Melnick passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 28th, 2008, at the age of 72. Born and raised in The Pas, Manitoba, Albert attended the University of Manitoba where he received a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in communities in both Manitoba and Ontario; finally returning to settle in The Pas. At the end of his retirement, he was Head of the Department of Highways for Northern Manitoba. Albert was an active leader and proud member of the community; including membership in the Lions Club, Rotary Club, Masons and Shriners. He was a member of the Town Council, The Pas District School Board, and Hospital Auxiliary Board for many years. He even secretly enjoyed being a spot on the Game of The Pas board game. After retiring, he fulfilled his long time dream of owning and operating his own sod and grain farm. He received great pleasure sitting out on his land, looking out over the field and enjoying the fresh air. He liked to grow vegetables on his farm and shared the produce with the community. Many evenings were enjoyed at the local casino, where he was pretty lucky at Keno. He always had time for coffee and conversation with his buddies. He was proud of his Ukrainian heritage, and was known to drive a long distance for a home-made Perogie'. Above all else, Albert loved his family and was especially proud of his children. He enjoyed nothing more than having his children together at family functions. He is predeceased by his wife Irene, and will be sadly missed by his four children; Lorelei, Sherrill and her partner Greg, Rodney and his wife Sharon, and Susan; his sisters Margaret Ohyrn, Elizabeth Melnick, and all related family and friends. We will remember Albert for his generosity, kindness, sense of humor and support. We know that our lives will go on without him, but will not be quite as blessed. We love you and will miss you dearly. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
