DONALD CHARLES LAW April 4, 1913 - October 18, 2008 Donald Charles Law passed away at the Victoria General Hospital on October 18th, 2008, his great-grandson Colin's 18th birthday, at the age of 95. Don was born in Winnipeg, the second son of Rose Mary and Alexander Hamilton Law. He worked in his father's butcher shop, for Canada Packers in Winnipeg, as a switchman for the Canadian National Railway, and as a farm hand. While living in Vancouver, Don helped to paint the Second Narrows Bridge and drove a trolley bus. His last working years were spent with his brother Dave assisting in the management of Motel 75 in Winnipeg. For 15 years he travelled to California to cottage in the desert with his brother Ed and family. In Don's later years, his son Bob and Bob's partner Elaine Morrisseau provided Don with excellent care. Don could entertain you for hours with stories about his experiences and friends. His hobbies included boxing, camping, fishing, canoeing and bicycling - he was active into his nineties. Don married Margaret Mary Chaschowy (deceased Czyzewski). They had two children Doreen Mary (Samuel Patrick) Goodman (deceased) and Robert (Bob) Charles. There are three grandchildren: Rosaleen Mary Goodman (John Stoness), Christine Teresa Goodman-Vernon, and Samantha Iko Cara Goodman; two great-grandchildren: Adrian Jared Goodman and Colin Donald Vernon; and one great-great-grandchild: Thalia Lia Mary Goodman. Predeceased by his sister Mary Elizabeth and elder brother Robert Hamilton in his youth, Don's brother Edwin Alexander and sister-in-law Muriel Isobel (nee Ormiston) of San Diego passed away more recently several years apart, leaving his youngest sibling, brother David William (Vinnie Hill nee Armitage) to survive him here in Winnipeg. Tragically predeceased by his daughter Doreen in 2004, he is survived by his son Bob and his daughter's children and grandchildren all of Winnipeg, and his son-in-law of Gimli, Manitoba. His many nephews and nieces and their children reside in San Diego, Anaheim, Vancouver, Abbotsford and Ottawa as well as Winnipeg. Don will be remembered for his stories, for his special way of looking at the world, and for his love of the outdoors. He did not want a service. A private interment will be held at a later date. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society. We love you Don. Be at peace.
