STEPHIE MACHULA (nee MATWIY) August 18, 1926 - October 29, 2008 Some people don't make a mark in their lifetime, but simply leave the world a better place for having been in it. With family at her side, Stephie passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 82 years. Stephie is lovingly remembered by her husband Nick of 56 years; daughters, Debbie (Gord Irek) and Cindy (Mike) Lewkiw; brothers, Johnny (Jeanette), Joe (Pauline) and Mike (Arlene); sisters, Olive (late Paul) Nosaty, Anne (late Art) Hamlin, Phyllis (late Bill) Wengrowich and Mae (late Russell) Husak, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her sister Doris (John) Moskal; brother-in-law John (Anne) Machula; sister-in-law Mary (Joe) Ziemski; nieces, Shirley Moskal, Juliw Johnson and nephew Eugene Nosaty. Born in Buchanan, Saskatchewan, Stephie left the family homestead for Winnipeg at the early age of 16. She had a few domestic jobs before joining Systems Equipment as a shipper. Stephie joined the choir at St. Vladimir Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church where she met her husband Nick. Nick and Stephie married in 1952, had two daughters and spent the rest of their years together in St. Boniface. The family would like to thank the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital 3B, as well as the staff at Catherine Place for their kind care and compassion. Divine Liturgy (Mass) will be held on Thursday, November 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 390 Marion Street. Interment of the cremated remains will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
