HUGH GORDON FRASER Peacefully on November 1, 2008 at the Betel Home, Selkirk, Gordie Fraser, aged 88 years, a lifetime resident of Selkirk, MB. He was predeceased by his siblings Archie, Jean, Bertha, Helen, Art, Edna, Grant, and Stewart. Gordie was born in Selkirk on July 27, 1920, son of the late Hugh and Agnes Fraser. He served with the R.C.N.V.R. during the Second World War. He had worked at Sarbits Store in Selkirk during the Depression years and then ran the store on the S.S. Keenora on Lake Winnipeg, introducing ice cream to the native people at Norway House. He later served as chauffeur for Mr. Tucker of Eatons, worked at the Eatons Parkade in Winnipeg, and lastly as a Commissioner at Lower Fort Garry. During his retirement years he worked part-time at Gilbart Funeral Home, a job he immensely enjoyed and took great pride in. Gordie was a longtime elder of Knox Church, a member of the Marine Museum of Selkirk and a great Selkirk Steeler supporter. He was very generous and will be missed by his many friends in Selkirk. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 5 at 1:30 p.m. in the Knox Presbyterian Church, Selkirk with Rev. Anton Bouw officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Clements Cemetery. His pallbearers will be Dave McKenzie, Marshall McCarthy, Ron Brooks, Jim McLeod, Roy Gilbart and Bob Wilson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
