GERTRUDE SORBY (nee WILSON) On Friday, October 31, 2008, Gertrude Sorby passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital. Left to cherish Gertrude's memory are her son, Richard; sisters, Alice and Pirkko of Sudbury, Ontario and Hilkka (Darl) of Azilda, Ontario; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward in 1988; her parents; brother, Elmer and sister, Violet. Gertrude was born in Alajarvi, Finland on April 26, 1923 to Einari and Aino Wilson. The family immigrated to Canada in 1932, settling in Sudbury, Ontario. Gertrude and Edward were married in 1943, eventually residing in the countryside near Sudbury where she took great pride in nurturing her flower gardens. In 1965, Ed and Gertie moved to Winnipeg. Gertie was an avid reader, loved watching the Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune, and looked forward to her Monday chats with Brenda. She was an animal lover and for many years, enjoyed looking after her three cats. Her cabbage rolls were the best in town. Funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 5 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. with Pastor Don Engel officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery.
