Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD ERNEST LYTWYN 1945 - 2008 On Thursday October 30, 2008, Ric Lytwyn suddenly passed away at the age 63. Ric leaves to mourn his wife of 33 years, Heather; daughters Trisha (Kent) Malanowich of Winnipeg, and Cara of Winnipeg; sons Trevor ( Patti) of Winnipeg, Steve ( Kelly) of Flin Flon, and Jamie of Flin Flon; grandchildren Alli, Hanna and Scott Lytwyn, Tristen and Madison Malanowich, sister Sylvia Wullum, sister-in-law Marlene Alexiuk (Phil); nieces, nephews, and friends. Ric was born in Winnipegosis on September 2, 1945. After he graduated from Rorketon School in 1963, he taught on permit for three years. He completed a year of training at the Manitoba Teacher's College and then taught at Rorketon School until June 1974. His favorite subject was physical education and he loved to coach his students in volleyball and track. He made science class come alive by hatching chickens and having his children build houses that they had to wire for electricity. In 1969, he married Sally Biletski and they had two children: Trisha and Trevor. In 1974, Ric and Sal parted ways, and he was employed by the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelter Company in Flin Flon. In 1975, he married Heather Goodman, and they had three children: Steve, Cara and Jamie. He worked for 27 years in the Powerhouse and was well respected by his co-workers. He retired in September, 2001 as a fourth class power engineer. Ric was a devoted father to his five children. He made sure that there were many opportunities for the two families to blend. Family photos reflect the many hours Rick spent enjoying the pool, fishing, and trips with his family. This fall Ric, Steve and Jamie took their hunter's safety, and they were beginning to share a new interest and learning from Ric's expertise. All of Ric's friends and family knew that he was extremely proud of all his children: their education, their marriages, their accomplishments. Ric was an avid sports fan and a competitive curler, baseball player, and goalie in hockey. He was a lifetime fan of the Green Bay Packers, and his three sons thrilled him with a surprise trip to see a game in Green Bay in November 2005. He rarely missed a televised Blue Jays game, and phone calls to his sister Sylvia often included a discussion of this shared interest. Ric was an avid reader and a music enthusiast. He loved music when driving, or while he did the dishes. Ric was predeceased by his mother Gertrude, father Stephen, father-in-law Oscar Goodman, brother-in-law Doug Gruenke, and nephew Allan Alexiuk. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Ric's memory. The viewing will take place on Wednesday, November 5 at 6:00 p.m. at the Dadson Funeral Home and the funeral service will take place on Thursday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m. with lunch to follow. On-line condolences may be made at www.dadsonfuneralhome.com. Dadson Funeral Home of Flin Flon, MB is entrusted with the arrangements. 204-687-5821.
