LILLIAN BLYTHE JOHNSON 1917 - 2008 Lillian passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at the Victoria Hospital after a lengthy illness. Lillian is survived by her daughter Lynne and son-in-law Ted Foreman, son Kelly (Debbie), grandchildren Chris (Kristy), Austen and Amanda (Danny) and her great-grandchildren Ethan and Alicia. She was predeceased by her husband George and infant son Barry. Mom was born on June 16, 1917 in North Shields, England. During the war years, while George was in India, she worked for the Fire Service. In 1955, Lillian, George and Lynne immigrated to Canada, landing in Quebec and took the train to Winnipeg. Their son Kelly was born in 1958. Even though mom lived in Canada for over 50 years, she never forgot her roots in England, and remained a proper English lady to the end. Mom worked in retail for many years, starting out in The Bay hat department and finishing up at Willsons Stationers at Polo Park. She retired when she was 70. After retirement, Mom volunteered for many years at the Misericordia Hospital in the Gift Shop and Eye Clinic. Mom was a longtime parishioner of St. Lukes Anglican Church. She was a member of the A.C.W and the Whale and enjoyed many social events associated with the church. Mom lived in Lindenwood Manor for two and one half years before her hospitalization. She made many new friends there and enjoyed all the activities, especially shuffle bowling and the Tuesday afternoon Ladies Group. She loved celebrating special occasions with family and friends, sending and receiving cards, stopping at Assiniboine Park, Lockport for ice cream and going to the cottage. Lillian's family would like to thank all the friends who visited with her during her time in the hospital - your visits really brightened her day. A special thank you to Daphne Shaw who took such good care of Mom whenever we were away. The family sends special thanks to all the staff on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors at the Victoria Hospital who gave her such wonderful care. Special thanks to Dr. Thorlakson who cared for Mom the last two weeks of her life. Also to Dr. Richard Bilos, Mom's family physician. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. with a reception to follow. A private family interment will be held. In keeping with the style in which Lillian chose to dress, the family requests that those attending do not wear black attire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8 or a charity of one's choice.
