EARL ESSERS, LLB Earl passed away on the morning of November 2, 2008, three days after his 87th birthday. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Beverley; his son, Ron of Vancouver; his daughter, Donna Broder and her son Jonathan, his step-daughters, Ricki (Gary) Jacobson and their sons Dan and Noah, and Kathy Levine (Rick Green). He will also be missed by his sister-in-law and good friend Selma Stein; many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and his good friend, Barry Myers who provided him with some good laughs when they were very much needed. Burial took place on November 3 at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ron Essers, Rick Green, Gary Jacobson, Dan Jacobson, Noah Jacobson and Sherman Greenberg. Part of Earl's formative years were spent in Regina, Sask. He moved to Winnipeg in his teens and worked in the fur trade until 1941 when he joined the Army. After about two years in the Army, he transferred to the Navy where he served his country until peace was declared. Following his discharge, he decided to study law at the University of Manitoba and got his degree in 1950. He also studied business administration at the University of Western Ontario in London from 1950-1951. Earl was called to the Bar in 1951. He practised law for many years as a partner of Essers and Meltzer and then with the firm, Duboff, Edwards, Haight and Shachter. He then became an associate of the firm until his retirement. He was a long-time member of the Glendale Country Club, where he enjoyed golf and visits with his friends. He was highly regarded for his honesty and integrity, both personally and professionally. All who came into contact with Earl were blessed by his kindness and his sweetness. He will be very much missed by all who knew him. Earl and Beverley shared much love and devotion and created memories that will be treasured. We are very grateful for all the kindness and care given to Earl by his doctors, nurses and the staff of Home Care and Veteran's Affairs during his recent illness.
