CYRUS LISTER It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, uncle, brother, brother-in-law and grandfather Cyrus on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Cyrus spent his final days surrounded by friends and passed peacefully with his wife and family by his side. He believed family is the most important thing . Cyrus (Koorosh Mirfakhraii) was born in Zahedan, Iran in 1953 to loving parents Abdorashid and Hori Mirfakhraii. Cyrus lived an adventurous childhood with his siblings, Dariush, Mahnoosh, Kianoosh and Soroosh. He immigrated to Canada in 1973 in pursuit of higher education. At the University of Winnipeg he met the love of his life, Patricia Lister and together they had three children; Aimee (Jerry), Adam (Karen) and Eric (Alia). He and his family lived in The Pas and Thompson before moving to Winnipeg. Cyrus, a representative with the UFCW, believed in solidarity and fighting for the rights of others. To this end, he worked for the Employment Insurance Board of Referees, the Landlords and Tenants Commission of Manitoba, the National Defence Fund, pension trustee boards and many other committees. His generosity was not limited to his work, as he was always the source of great support for many of his friends and family. Cyrus pursued his passion for sport and gave his time to the Manitoba Soccer and Basketball Referees Associations serving as a referee, president and as a mentor to young referees. When Cyrus was relaxing he enjoyed spending time in Sandy Hook with his wife of 33 years, planning family gatherings, playing crib and aggravation with friends, sharing Iranian food with his brothers, Kianoosh and Soroosh and taking his grandson Brendan for Baba pancakes. Times spent with Cyrus were special - always filled with learning, love and adventure. Words could not express the impact he had on our lives. His memory will guide us forever. As Cyrus would say Life is Beautiful! A memorial service in Cyrus' honour will be held Wednesday November 12, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. at Christ the King Church (847 St. Mary's Rd., St.Vital). The interment and reception will follow at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Special thanks to Cyrus' health care professionals, especially Dr. Maxwell, Dr. Orgaranko, Noel Brown, Anne and all other oncology nurses at Victoria Hospital and the staff of the Riverview Health Centre. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation at cbcf.org. CHAPEL LAWN 885-9715

Even with the passing of time words cannot express the true spirit and friendship of Cyrus. We shared many funny stories; considered many situations and developed a true friendship. Miss you Cyrus and know you will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Roger Dheilly (Friend) on: Dec 24, 2015

Cyrus was a friend, mentor, co-conspirator and Fearless Leader. Cyrus taught me that humor is vital and the fight must go on, no matter how many stumbles or slow downs. His laughter was infectious, comforting when times were tough, he was always there to lend a hand, his knowledge or a shoulder. Cyrus taught me to be a stronger person to stand up for myself and others. He will always be with us and will watch over us. Good Bye Cyrus. I will continue your work as you wanted. I will never forget you or all that you have become to me. - Posted by: Deborah Jones (Friend) on: Nov 08, 2008
