Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH KETTNER With great sorrow we announce the passing of Ruth Kettner on September 10, 2008 at the age of 77; she died peacefully at the Grace Hospital after a brief illness. Ruth is survived and sadly missed by Dr. Joseph Kettner, her husband of 56 years, daughters Adrian (Irwin), Norine (Larry), grandsons Samuel, Michael, Elliot and Brady and sister Myrna (Monte Raber) and family. Ruth was born November 14, 1930 in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by parents Fanny and Murray Golden. She never forgot her humble roots. She graduated with a BA from the University of Manitoba. She did not pursue a career outside the home, but focused instead on her role as wife, mother and homemaker. Ruth had elegant taste, presenting herself and her home in a tasteful understated manner. She always maintained an avid interest in arts and culture. She loved classical music and opera. She was always interested in and followed world affairs. She was a voracious reader. We recall with fondness our annual summer vacations, then our many years of poolside summers with a steady stream of family and friends who were welcomed with warm hospitality, a plentiful supply of food and Joe's famous barbecues. Ruth and Joe travelled together in North America, Europe, Israel and for many years vacationed in Hawaii, then San Diego. Ruth was devoted to her husband Joe, her Rock of Gibralter, and her daughters and their families. She found particular pride and joy in her grandsons, following their activities and progress, photographing them and collecting keepsakes. Ruth's integrity and spirit of decency, kindness and generosity were an inspiration to all who knew her. She was thankful for the kindness of those who offered her support and friendship especially in recent years. The family is grateful to those who supported her and for the compassionate treatment she received in her final days.
