EDWIN POKRANT Suddenly on October 11, 2008, as the result of an aneurism, Edwin Pokrant, aged 76, passed away at Concordia Hospital with his family close by. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Irene; children, Heather (George) Piche, Darryl (Alexandra) Pokrant and Warren (Karen) Pokrant; grandchildren, Caleigh, Briana, Amanda, Jolynne, Georgie and Corey; sisters, Vi (Henry) Bobert and Ruth (Don) McKenzie; brothers, Larry (Gladys) Pokrant and Elmer (Verna) Pokrant; sisters-in-law, Myrtle (Art) Ganske, Audrey (Ross) Feeney and Ruby Recksiedler; brother-in-law Ervin (Eleanor) Recksiedler and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Helen Pokrant, in-laws Dan and Elsie Recksiedler, sister-in-law Martha Recksiedler and brother-in-law Earl Recksiedler. Ed was born in Rosenfeld in 1932 and grew up on the family farm. After attending high school in Steinbach, he moved to Winnipeg and started a 35 year career in the Accounting department with Macleods stores. After early retirement, Dad worked part-time jobs for a few years and then fully retired to spend time caring for his family, his church and others. Faith in God was the cornerstone of Ed's life and his Christian witness showed through in everything he did and everyone he came in contact with. He was baptized, confirmed and later married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rosenfeld, spent his youth at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Winnipeg and together with his wife Irene, raised their family as 42 year active members of Sherwood Park Lutheran Church. Dad was never one to put himself first, but was always there to look out for others, whether it be family, aging parents or uncles, shut-ins or hospitalized or anyone needing a hand. He shared these values with his children and grandchildren, all of whom he was very proud. The family wishes to thank the Emergency team at Concordia Hospital as well as Pastor Tom Lurvey. After a private family burial, a memorial service to celebrate Ed's life was held at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church, 7 Tudor Crescent, R2K 2A5, on Wednesday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sherwood Park Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Canadian Lutheran World Relief, 1080 Kingsbury Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2P 1W5.
