EFFIE PEARL CALDER June 23, 1919 - November 9, 2008 Effie Pearl (Craig) Calder, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2008, at Bethesda Hospital Rehab in her 90th year. Effie is survived by her loving husband John; children, Hazel (Bill) Bochinski, Cameron (Betty), Glen (Mary Anne), Elaine Smith; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Effie was predeceased by her parents; siblings, Anne, Earl and Clarence; brothers-in-law, Reinhold Steinke and Ralph Calder; son-in-law Bruce Smith and grandson Cory Smith. Effie was born to Archie and Violet Craig, June 23, 1919 at Ridgeville, Manitoba. She completed her schooling at Greenridge, married John Calder in 1942 and pursued a career as a mother and farmer's wife until illness forced them to retire to Dominion City, and then for the past three years to Steinbach. Effie was always available for community endeavours. She was an active member of the Greenridge United Church and the Arnaud Woman's Institute. She spent many years involved in 4-H work for the benefit of her children. She was involved in countless fall suppers and fund raising events. Effie and John represented the Dominion City Golden Centre at Eastman MSOS. She was a member of the IOF. Effie had a passion for quilting and quilts crafted by her hands will be a lasting legacy for us. Effie loved to play cards, especially crib, spending many enjoyable hours with friends and family. Effie and John loved travelling, especially those motor home fishing trips with a group of friends. A very special thank you to the staff on the Rehab unit at Bethesda Hospital. Memorial Services will be held: Wednesday, November 12, 2:00 p.m. at Greenridge United Church, Greenridge, and Thursday, November 13, 1:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach.
