Date of Passing: Nov 10, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA KOMARNYCKY (nee CZEKAJLO) Olga Komarnycky (nee Czekajlo) peacefully passed on to her eternal resting place at the age of 83 on November 10, 2008. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband William Komarnycky; her daughter Elizabeth (Lesia) and husband Ian McCarron of Winnipeg, MB; son Oliver Nicholas and wife Christine Komarnycky of Kitchener, ON; her four grandchildren, Jeffery and Michael McCarron of Winnipeg, MB; Zachary and Megan Komarnycky of Kitchener, ON. She is also survived by her sister Sophie (Czekaijlo) Kuzycky - Strosky, brother, Edward (Ed) Czekaijlo, and their families in several cities throughout South Australia. Olga was born February 6, 1925 in Kondrativ, Ukraine; a small town (selo) southwest of Lviv, where she spent her early years working as a nurse. After surviving the devastating challenges of the Second World War, in 1950 she decided to leave the war ravaged Europe and traveled to Bissett, Manitoba, Canada, small gold mining town, where she met her loving husband William, who also recently arrived from Ukraine. Together, they started on their new life's journey by moving to Winnipeg, working very hard, building their own home, raising children, and establishing themselves in their new community and Canada. Olga Mama , a devoted homemaker and loving mother to her children and dearly loved husband Tato , worked part time throughout the 50's, 60's, and 70's as a nurse. Her love did not stop at her own children but extended to all her grandchildren where she continually maintained pictures and portraits throughout the home. In her younger years, prior to succumbing to rheumatoid arthritis, she was always ready to volunteer for social and church events, loved to create beautiful and intricate cross-stitch designs, meticulously took care of her home, found time to knit and sew for her whole family, personally take care of her large garden, and lovingly created incredibly delicious traditional Ukrainian dishes. Although Olga and William were always busy, they found time to purchase a motor home and every year travel across North America with their two children. In 1963, Olga traveled to Adelaide, South Australia to visit family and again in 1988 together with her husband. Olga leaves a legacy of a loving family, a deep instilled love of the church, and many wonderful Ukrainian traditions, customs, and culture. She will always be remembered and sadly missed by her whole family, friends, including acquaintances that she made over the years. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 13th (tonight) at St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 820 Burrows Ave., Winnipeg. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 14th also at the Church with Rev. Fr. Roman Stefanyshyn officiating, assisted by The Very Rev. Archpriest Michael Skrumeda. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Cemetery. Donations may be made in Olga's memory to St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 820 Burrows Ave., Winnipeg. The Family wishes to thank the Doctors and Staff at Park Manor Personal Care Home for all their love, gentle care, and compassion shown to Olga during her stay. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2103
