NELLIE MAY HUZARSKI 1921 - 2008 On Monday, November 10, 2008, surrounded by her loving family, our dear Mom and Grandma, Nellie Huzarski passed away peacefully at the age of 87 years. Nellie was born in Garson, Manitoba on June 8, 1921 to John and Agnes Wazny. Mom and Dad, Edward Huzarski, were married September 10, 1949 and lived on the farm in Narol, Manitoba. Mom had the best green thumb in town. She loved her flowers and vegetable garden. Only a special person could make anything grow from seed or cutting, and Mom was such a person. Together Mom and Dad operated their farm where Mom grew ample vegetables to feed and share with the whole family. Mom also enjoyed working at Young's Florist for many years. She was a hard worker, both at the greenhouse and at home. Later, she loved to sit on the sundeck among her flowers enjoying the summer. Another favourite summer pastime was picking wild mushrooms, podpienki, in and around Bird's Hill Park. These were served as a special treat at the family gathering on Christmas Eve. Mom and Dad were not big travellers, but loved their trip to Poland. Although Mom liked to stay close to home, she did enjoy day trips to Garson to visit her family and a few longer trips to BC, Saskatoon, Florida and Fort Erie. Closer by, Saturday morning shopping trips with Jason were a highlight each week. The rest of us will remember the Senior Days shopping trips to K-Mart for the blue light special and lunch in the cafeteria or at Wendy's. In the community, Mom was a longtime member of Corpus Christi Parish. She was a devout Catholic and belonged to the Rosary Society. She was dedicated to her family and loved having them over to enjoy her delicious carrot cake with cream cheese icing. And if the carrot cake was all gone, everyone knew where to find the chocolate chip cookies. Grandma enjoyed time with and was proud of each and every one of her grandchildren. Mom will be sadly missed by her family: children, John (Janina), Brenda (Zbig Kowaliszyn), Veronica Black (Doug), Gerty (Dave Edmonds), and Ronnie (Tannis, daughter Nicole); grandchildren, Kathryn, Elizabeth, Christopher (Regina), Jennifer (Edward Pieczonka), Ryan (Deirdre), Sean (Christine), and Chad, Jason (Janice), Mark (Mandy), and Stephanie; her brother Andrew Wazny and sister Mary Semenuik; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Edward; her parents; brothers, Mike, Stanley and Frank; and son-in-law Guy Black. Special thanks to Eve for being such a wonderful friend to Mom. The family would also like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital for caring for Mom. Viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2008 with funeral service to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, 5819 Henderson Highway. Interment to follow at the parish cemetery Pallbearers will be Chris Kowaliszyn, Ryan, Sean and Chad Black, Jason and Mark Edmonds. Honorary pallbearers will be John and Ron Huzarski. 586-8044
