HILDA MAY (TAIT) FITZNER (1928 - 2008) In loving memory of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and aunt, Hilda May (Tait) Fitzner, who passed away peacefully on November 11, 2008 at 4:25 p.m. at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 17, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. at the Kenanow Community Hall, with Spiritual Leaders: Reverend Jean Arthurson-Ousken (Anglican) and Albert Tait/John Marten (Cree Traditional) officiating. Interment to follow in the Wabowden Cemetery. A Feast to follow in the Kenanow Community Hall. Hilda (Kekawaynan, Kookuminan, mina Ke Chapanan) was predeceased by her husband Frederick Fitzner Sr. (1922-1993), sons David Fitzner, Phillip Fitzner, George and John Fitzner; grandchildren: Paula Mead (Elsie), Christopher Weibe (Linda), Kathrine Fitzner (Linda), Jackie Cunday (Freda), Angeline Patterson (Hilda), AJ Slaney (Bernie), and Noah (Chantelle); sisters Katherine (Tait) Colomb, Nancy (Tait) Pierone, and Margaret (Tait) Garay Taylor; along with siblings who passed away while in their infant years. She will be deeply and sadly missed by her daughters: Freda, Elsie, Laara-Eileen, Margaret, Linda, Hilda Jr., Lorna, and Marissa; sons Fred Jr., Harvey, Patrick, William, and Bernie. Her descendants include over 110 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, plus numerous extended family members and friends. Hilda Fitzner was a deeply devoted woman who carried her values of hard work, dedication, love, peace, trust, perseverance, wisdom, and lifeways reflective of both her Cree, Oji-Cree and European heritage. She enjoyed her leisure time with her family and friends with whom she spend time playing card games, bingo, and enjoying social, spiritual, and cultural activities. She prayed faithfully each day in her Cree language honouring and healing for her family and friends and in English reciting the Lord's prayer. She encouraged her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren to work hard, live faithfully, enjoy what life has to offer, be kind to one another, help one another, share what you have with one another, and play cards with one another. She enjoyed humour, good laughs and stories with her family and friends. Her final wish was to spend her last days, in Wabowden, on the land of her parents Joseph and Adelaide Tait where she grew up and where she and her husband Fred raised their own family. Sadly, she did not make this final journey during her lifetime but this thought kept her with a peace of mind before she passed on. Our loving thoughts and gracious appreciation that she was our matriach will be with us forever. The Fitzner Family wishes to express their utmost appreciation and gratitude for your kindness shown in thought and deed and for your attendance at each phase of her final journey for our family and friend Hilda Fitzner Sr. Boardman Funeral Home in care of arrangements phone 778-7982 Thompson.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I met Hilda back in 1982, in Wabowden, and in Thompson at the homes of some of her children. She was my son's grandmother. She was a lovely, gracious, spiritual woman and I always admired her. My son, Aaron, and I have very warm memories of her. I remember her teaching me how to do bead work, and he remembers her splitting a TV-Bingo win with him, and eating large bowls of blueberries and milk together. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the loved ones in Manitoba as they tell this special lady goodbye. - Posted by: Rachel Hefling (Family) on: Nov 16, 2008
