KAY (SYROTIUK) MALENCHAK On November 14, 2008, Kay Malenchak passed from this life into the hands of our Lord. She leaves to mourn her beloved daughters Lorraine (Ron) and Sharon (Kim) as well as her loving brother Nicholas. She will be sadly missed by her dear grandchildren Paul (Lynn), Anne (Dave), and John (Samantha) along with her six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Anna (Horodny) and Petro Syrotiuk, brother Michael, husband Walter, and sister Mary. Kay was born in 1918 on Johnson Avenue in Winnipeg. Soon after, her family moved to Cook's Creek and began raising their family on the farm. It was there that Kay eventually met the handsome young man who came to teach at Zora and was boarding at her cousins' next door. Walter proposed to her and they were married in Zbaraz in 1939. Walter's career first took them to Thalberg. Then, their daughter Lorraine was born in Cromwell. They enjoyed making friends and meeting neighbours as they moved to Ladywood and Cloverleaf. Finally, they settled in Winnipeg where they built their first house by hand on Talbot Avenue as Kay was expecting their daughter Sharon. Throughout her life, Kay's greatest joys were her family, entertaining friends (especially with canasta), finding wild mushrooms, shoveling snow on Helmsdale, taking car trips, and tending her vegetable garden. Her grandchildren will remember her wonderful Ukrainian recipes and home-made donuts. She managed to do all this while caring for her parents, her husband and working part-time at Miles Mac. God bless you: Mom, Granny, Aunty K , Kashka. Funeral services to be scheduled next week. Cropo Funeral Chapel will handle arrangements (586-8044). Many thanks to the kind HomeCare nurses, staff and residents of Lion's Manor. In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make a donation to Canadian Diabetes Association, Immaculate Conception Church of Cook's Creek, Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice. Vichnaya Pamyat.

  • Aunty Kay, the ultimate hostess. Family and friends were always welcome. Coffee, tea and cake appeared miraculously. Aunty Kay always cared about others more than herself. Love always Ed and Sylvia Eggerer. - Posted by: Sylvia Eggerer (Family) on: Nov 19, 2008
