DORIS HELEN MARTIN (nee THURSTON) 1918 2008 Doris died peacefully at her home in Winnipeg November 11, 2008. Predeceased by her husband Alec in 1998, Doris is survived by: her daughters, Doreen (Jim) Beckstead of Winnipeg, MB and Heather (Doug) Cheyne of Oakville, ON; her grandchildren, Chris (Micheline), Brian (Heather), Lori, Ian, and Kevin, great-grandchildren, Alex and Emma, sister-in-law Vivian Thurston, and many nieces and nephews. Doris was born in Regina, SK and met Alec in Regina during his military service. They were married in 1943 and lived in Rosetown and Regina, SK before moving to Winnipeg in 1962. They were long time residents of Southwood Green Condominiums. In recent years Doris lived at The Waverley, The Rosewood and most recently Tuxedo Villa. Doris loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was never happier than when with her family. She was an active member at Oxford and Westworth United Churches, where she made many dear friends. Cremation has taken place and a service of remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m., December 13, 2008 at Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor St., Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the staff of Tuxedo Villa and companions Gail and Helen for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, a donation could be made to a charity of their choice.
