DOREEN PAPINEAU (nee SMALL) 1942 - 2008 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen Verena Papineau on November 14, 2008, after courageously fighting Alzheimer's disease, she died peacefully at the age of 66 years. Doreen was predeceased by her father Fred, her mother Phyllis, and her sister Barbara. She will be sadly missed by her sons, Ken (Jessica) and grandchildren Benjamin, and William, Don and grandchildren Caitlyn, and Jordan. She also leaves behind many immediate and extended family members and life long friends. Doreen graduated from nursing at the Winnipeg General Hospital in 1963, and to this day cherished the many life long friendships she made during that time. From there Doreen went onto a very successful career at St. Boniface Hospital, spanning over 25 years, where at retirement she was the Director of Psychiatric Nursing and Ambulatory Care. To those who ensured she retired with dignity at an early age, we thank you for your kindness. Our Mom truly enjoyed the simple things in life and taught us at an early age many valuable lessons that we hold dear to our hearts today. She led a very active life which involved swimming, cycling, cross country skiing and gardening. Her back yard hot tub was also a true joy for her as she spent many evenings out there alone or with friends during all seasons. We will always have fond memories of watching her bike down Churchill Drive from early spring to late fall, no matter how bad the weather or wind. From your boys, thanks for all the wonderful vacations you took us on across this great country of ours, it has allowed us to truly appreciate how magnificent it is. The summers spent at Linklater Lake will also always remain some of the fondest memories we have. Watching you swim in the lake for what seemed like hours at a time was truly remarkable. Rest in peace Mom, and know that your memory will help guide us through life's journey, enjoying the simple things in life. To everyone who has given their support over the years by visiting our Mom, or passing along your thoughts, your support was appreciated. The family would also like to thank Eddy Dudych for his love and support over the years. It warmed our hearts to know you were always there for our Mom. We would also like to thank the amazing staff at the Riverview Health Centre for their outstanding care over the past years. A celebration of Doreen's life will be held on Tuesday, November 18 at 10:00 a.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4G2.
