CAROL MARY MARCHYSHYN (May 2, 1944 - September 4, 2008) Unexpectedly and quietly, early morning September 4, 2008 at Riverview Health Center, Carol passed into the presence of her Lord. She will be missed by family, many friends and staff. Carol grew up in St. Vital. She excelled at academics and was very active in sports, especially high jump, and basketball. In 1963, she started the Bachelor of Nursing program at the University of Saskatoon, but switched to Arts after the car accident in 1965 that left her a quadriplegic. She then graduated with distinction in 1968. She loved to travel and went on numerous trips with Mom and Dad in her motor home. She had friends in many places. She loved being out with friends and family and you got extra points if you would go shopping with her. She loved good food, good coffee, giving gifts, good music, flowers, a good laugh, good movies and planning parties, trips and house renovations. Her church family were special and she loved being with them, and loved singing even when she couldn’t sing out loud. The pastoral care and friendship Carol received from her family, pastor and church family gave her the strength she needed when days weren’t easy. She appreciated the friendship and laughs with the staff at Riverview, and the care during the 10 years she was there. It was not her dream home, but gave her the independence and care she needed. After 43 years in her chair, she is finally free and “dancing with the angels”. Carol is survived by her sister Gail Kelsall (sons David and Steven), sister Myrna Ronald, Allan (daughters Wendi, Sandie and Vickie), brother Eldon, Pat (children Eldon Jr. and Shannon), sister Pati Ann Lawe, David (son Andrew), brother Peter John, Risa (children Sasha and Tasha). She was also the proud aunt of 14 great-nieces and nephews. Family burial has taken place. A service to celebrate her life will take place November 22, 1:00 p.m. at Assiniboia Charleswood Community Church, 760 Charleswood Rd. Flowers gratefully declined. A trust is being set up to offer schooling to physically handicapped kids in Africa. Davis Livingi in Zambia, starting Grade 10 in January, will be the first recipient. Donations can be sent in Carol’s memory to Loloma Mission Hospital care of MSC 509-3950 14th Ave., Markham, Ontario L3R 0A9. Davis’ story and details of the trust will be available at the memorial service or from the church, phone: 895-0608.
